This collection compiles short life stories of children who transformed the times and places they lived in (with an emphasis on the late twentieth century) in a variety of ways. Written in the present tense, profiles of children such as Helen Keller, Jan Mela or Malala Yousafzai are followed by a list of honours that the young heroes were awarded as well as Karolina Grabarczyk’s afterword on children’s rights and the general idea behind the book. The presentation of these accomplishments is intended to inspire young readers.
The book includes a text on of Anne Frank, which informs the reader of Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, Frank’s hiding in the secret annex at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam and her famous journal.
